DIY First Birthday Greek Yogurt Painting

A few weeks ago I came across a beautiful painting that Sarah, from Numpfer, created with her daughter.  She created a post about how they created their picture and the simple steps to do it on your own [see her post here].  I absolutely adored this idea, and what a great keepsake the painting would be for my daughter as her first piece of art, for her first birthday.  We also got to use the painting as part of her birthday party decor, it added the perfect touch.

To create our painting we decided to switch up our painting supplies from watercolour (what Sarah used) to a greek yogurt and food colouring mix. Sophie likes to put things in her mouth so this was a great alternative to not have to worry about her eating the paint and just let us have fun with it.

Materials:

1 blank canvas
painters tape
greek yogurt
food colouring
wet cloth

Tips & Tricks:

When painting with greek yogurt, you really don’t need to use very much, and only a drop or two of food colouring will do the trick.  If you have thick spots of the yogurt on the painting when it drys it will flake off, keep it to a thin layer.  When pealing off the painters tape, be sure to peel off carefully as to not rip the canvas.  I kept a wet cloth handy as my daughter does not stay in one place for too long and you want to wipe hands before they grab onto anything.  I washed her clothes right away to keep from staining and found everything came out in the wash with ease.
