I don’t know about you but it doesn’t take much convincing to get me to an event with food as it’s main focus. Even better, is when that event includes live music, First Nations dancing, activities for the kids and even more food. Sold! Keep reading to find out the 10 reasons I think you should check out the first annual Chilliwack BBQ & Corn Fest on July 29th or 30th.

10 Reasons to Visit the Chilliwack BBQ & Corn Fest

   Say what! Yah you heard me right, no entry fee.

2. Live Bands

   Throughout both days of this two day event live local talent will be presenting.

3. First Annual

   There is just something so exciting about saying that you went to the first one, don’t you agree?

4. Ribs and Chicken Meals

   The mouth-watering description of these meals couldn’t be described better.
   “The Barbeque, featuring Johnston’s pulled pork and ribs and Fraser Valley Specialty Poultry organic chicken – both expertly-prepared and cooked by internationally renowned BBQ Master Rusty Johnson – as well as fresh caught Fair Trade sockeye salmon and traditional bannock prepared by Cheam Trading Post will be served each day from 11 am through 8 pm. The Ribs and Chicken meals will include baked beans, coleslaw and, of course fresh buttered corn-on-the-cob.”

5. Roasted Chilliwack Corn on the Cob

   This is one of my personal favorites. Chilliwack is known for their exceptional corn on the cob, so make sure you don’t leave without trying some. Corn will be specially produced and prepared by Hofstede’s Country Barn. There will also be the option to buy corn and bring it home.

6. Activities for Your Kids

   This event is intended for everyone of all ages to have a blast. They will have the kids entertainment covered with face painting, local airbrush artist, games, balloons and the extremely popular Ever After Princess Party.

7. All about Local

   From the local live bands to the incredible locally made ribs, chicken, corn and more! This event is all about supporting local makers. I heard that they might even be offering local craft beverages and setting up a local marketplace. Talk about local!

8. First Nations Dancers

   Enjoy a beautifully preformed dances that show expressions of the First Nations’ history and culture.

9. Convenient Location

   Minutes from Hwy 1 and you can find the Chilliwack Prospera Centre (45323 Hodgins Ave). Make a fun family day of it and plan to visit Cultus Lake too!

Ribs (Johnston’s Finest Ribs) – Apple wood smoked over an open fire pit with sweet Kansas City style sauce: $15
Chicken (Fraser Valley Specialty Poultry) Free Range Organic Prime – Apple wood smoked over an open fire pit with sweet Kansas City style sauce: $15
Accompaniment: Pit-style pork & beans cooked below the ribs plus creamy coleslaw and 1/2 corn on the cob
